Before the treatment

Chemical peels are not facials. This is a medical treatment, which requires proper skin preparation for 4-6 weeks before you can begin the treatment.Your dermatologist will put you on skin care to lighten sun tan and gently exfoliate your skin for a month before the chemical peel.  Follow the prescribed treatment correctly. Do not combine the dermatologist’s treatment with salon procedures or home remedies. If you have not followed the prescription correctly, please be honest and transparent to your doctor about the same.Certain skin care creams and medicated creams may have to be discontinued 3 days before and after the chemical peel.

Consult your dermatologist for correct advice in this regard.Chemical peels are not safe if you are on Oral Isotretinoin for your acne.Certain chemical peels are not safe during pregnancy.If you are combining chemical peels with other treatments like laser hair removal or botox, then a 2 week gap between treatments is recommended.If you have a history of cold sores (Lip Herpes), then you must start anti-viral medication one day prior to the treatment.Inform your doctor if you are allergic to Aspirin.Inform your dermatologist about pre-existing skin conditions like eczema, rosacea, vitiligo etc.

After Treatment

Avoid the sun for the next 3-5 days. Use a sunscreen religiously.Keep your skin well hydrated at all times. Use a moisturizer every day. You can expect some dryness and peeling for a few days after the peel. In case of excessive dryness, you can use your dermatologist-prescribed moisturizer 4-5 times a day. In case of scabbing, consult your dermatologist at the earliest.Avoid scrubs or harsh cleansers for the next 3-4 days. Do NOT pick at your skin.Certain skin care creams and medicated creams cannot be used for 3-5 days before and after a peel. Consult your dermatologist for correct advice in this regard.

Do not use any bleach, lemon juice, home remedies, dettol or savlon on your face after doing a chemical peel.No swimming for 3 days.Do not do any threading or waxing on the treated areas for at least 5 days.Do not expect actual peeling to occur. This does not happen in all cases. Even so, please know that you are experiencing all the benefits of the chemical peel.
