Dermal Fillers

Before Filler Injections

For a week prior to your treatment, stop oral intake of Vitamin E, Green Tea, Gingko Biloba, Ginseng, Fish Oils, garlic pills etc. These herbs and medications have a blood-thinning effect, which increase your risk of bruising after the treatment.

Certain medications like Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Ibuprofen, Warfarin etc., also have a blood thinning effect. Consult your physician/cardiologist to check if it is safe to get off the medications for 10 days or so. If you need a painkiller, use Paracetamol. Do no schedule any important event or social activities for at least a week after the procedure.

Despite best efforts and correct treatment techniques, you could still have a bruise.  A bruise may take 3-10 days to disappear completely. Discuss the use of bruise-fading creams or pills with your dermatologist.

After Dermal Fillers

Expect some swelling for a day. Swelling may last up to 3 days when the lip and under eye area are injected. Use cold compresses to reduce the swelling.

Do intermittent cold compresses for a day, if you see a bruise beginning to develop. If you have received a dental block, your lips may be numb for an hour. Stay away from hot fluids during that time. Avoid sucking (on a straw or a cigarette) and minimize chewing and talking for a day, to allow the filler to settle in. No facials for a week after the treatment.

If you observe any areas of lumpiness or asymmetry, you can massage the lumpiness away. Begin early. Better yet, review with your dermatologist who can massage away the lump.
